The Data Driven Case for Vacation
We love it when HBR’s (Harvard Business Review) emails show up in our inbox! There’s always something that we find really interesting and relevant to the franchise world. This time it was their research about vacations 😊:
“The question that needs to be asked is whether we are more productive and successful with fewer days, or whether work is getting in the way of our success. Statistically, taking more vacation results in greater success at work as well as lower stress and more happiness at work and home.
So why aren’t we using more vacation time? At first glance, one might think that a scarcity of jobs or lack of job security might be leading people to believe they always need to be at work. But the data does not support that.”
If we had to guess, we’d guess that franchisees and ‘zors are among the worst at stepping away and taking – much less truly enjoying and benefitting from – vacations. Hoping this information helps us all reconsider because health and wellness are keys to any successful business…and definitely a franchise.
Thought: How much business and how much “vacation” is involved in your typical franchise convention? What role could that convention play in allowing your franchisees to step away from their day to day “job”?
P.S. We have some great speakers (Andy Core being one) that can address the how-to and benefits of work/life balance at your next franchise event. If that sounds like something you’d like to add to your agenda, let’s talk.
