Give Yourself the Gift of a “Think Week”! 


When running a business, taking time off to clear your head and relax can feel like the hardest thing in the world to accomplish.  I don’t know about you, but I get that voice in my head that tries to take me out – telling me that I have too much to do, too many ‘critical’ action items that have to be executed urgently or the business will fall apart.  And the reality is, nothing is that urgent nor is it totally dependent on me! 


Recently I read an article highlighting the creative personal practices of several notable creators including Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs.  All three of these visionaries regularly schedule(d) “Think Weeks” to invigorate their thinking.  


I decided to implement their strategy and as you read this, I’m on a tiny island in the Northwest, living totally off the grid and giving my brain a chance to relax, recharge and percolate some innovative new ideas for SPEAK!, our valued clients and our speaker partners.  


I’ll be investing time looking for sea glass, napping in the shade, kayaking, picking wild blackberries, painting, reading and catching up with old friends.  And of course I have my “Think Week Journal” at the ready to capture whatever bubbles up in the process.

Franchise Operations Summit – Denver 2014 Recap


Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Ingage Consulting Franchise Operations Summit in Denver and it was, flat out, another “WOW!” event!


Evan Hackel and team once again over delivered on the two-day, interactive experience.  Expert presenters including Keith Gerson, Rupert Barkoff, Bob Gappa, Mindy Golde, Stacy Ruth, Cordell Riley, and of course, Evan Hackel, all shared invaluable tips, insights and personal experiences covering a huge range of franchise operational successes, challenges, and dilemmas. 


But what I think is the most significant take-away was what I heard over and over again from attendees – and that was how much they learned from each other through the varied interactive and experiential exercises that Evan and his team carefully facilitated for the group.
